MuseYourself / Web

Overview

Overview

MuseYourself is a vibrant platform for musicians to explore, learn, and create - offering not just lyrics and tabs, but also a suite of interactive tools like tuner, jam loops, and metronome.

My goal was to transform this fragmented ecosystem into a cohesive, playful environment that supports both structured practice and spontaneous creativity. As Lead Designer and Product Strategist, I led the UX vision, reimagined the product architecture, and shaped the interface to align with user behaviors and business goals.

The result. A unified, intuitive platform that encourages exploration without disorientation - increasing engagement and turning casual users into regular creators.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Despite the richness of the idea, we faced a crucial question: How can we simplify a multi-tool platform to enhance usability?

How can we encourage non-linear exploration without losing orientation?

How do we unify music consumption (lyrics, tabs) with creation (jam tools)?

Approach

Approach

1. UX Architecture: Simplifying Complexity. The platform originally offered a disjointed experience - lyrics, tools, and jam features felt disconnected. I reorganized the information architecture to align with user intent, enabling a more intuitive navigation experience. Whether users came to play, learn, or practice, the experience adapted accordingly.

Key UX Solutions. I introduced a unified search bar, serving as the primary gateway for users to access all features effortlessly. Grouped tools (Tuner, Metronome, Jam Composer) under one utilities section. Implemented a sticky tab system for quick switching between Lyrics / Tabs / Chords / Jam without reloading pages.

Collaboration. Worked closely with PMs and devs to define scope and technical feasibility. Led weekly design syncs to ensure cross-functional alignment. Facilitated usability testing sessions and incorporated dev feedback to refine the modular UI.

  2. Navigation Rework: Reducing Friction. Mobile-first design meant optimizing every tap. Users wanted quick access to favorites and commonly used tools. I designed a collapsible side menu with iconography and prioritization based on user data. I d

2. Navigation Rework: Reducing Friction. Mobile-first design meant optimizing every tap. Users wanted quick access to favorites and commonly used tools. I designed a collapsible side menu with iconography and prioritization based on user data. I designed contextual tool menus that dynamically appear only when relevant, streamlining the user's journey. Added persistent shortcuts to "My Favorites," accessible within 2 taps anywhere on the site.

  3. Jam Tool Interface: Visualizing Sound. The Jam section presented a unique UX/UI challenge: How could we visually present loopable instrument segments in a manner that is not only readable and editable but also emotionally engaging? My solutio

My solution. I developed a modular block UI, transforming each instrument part into a loopable, draggable tile for enhanced creativity. Used color-coded parts to enhance visual memory and flow. Enabled live reordering of segments to simulate real-time mixing.

  4. Visual Design: Purposeful Aesthetics. Our vibrant gradient style and thoughtfully paired typography go beyond mere aesthetics; they embody our brand's personality - expressive, modern, and bold. I developed a design system that included: Scala

I developed a design system that included: Scalable UI components with accessibility in mind. Light/dark mode contrast planning. Typography and spacing tuned for readability across devices.

Outcomes

Outcomes

We achieved a remarkable 40% reduction in onboarding time following our architectural simplification.

Thanks to our navigation updates, we observed an impressive 2.5x increase in session duration on mobile devices.

Through eight rounds of user testing, we discovered a significant boost in engagement with jam tools and a higher completion rate for song-based interactions.

Reflection. This project reinforced my belief that exceptional UX often feels invisible; users described their experience as 'smooth' and 'fun' - a testament to the thoughtful structural decisions made behind the scenes. My design process focused on achieving clarity, hierarchy, and a seamless musical flow, consistently prioritizing the user’s mental model in every decision.

The project deepened my belief in the power of design as a growth lever - simplifying architecture not only improved UX but directly impacted product KPIs like retention and engagement.
